Current transformer

Current transformers are used to measure current and convert an alternating current to be measured from one phase of the power grid into a lower current that can be measured by measuring devices and energy meters. For example, 500 A primary current to be measured is converted into 1 A or 5 A secondary current which is applied to the measuring device. The measurement of primary current to secondary current is proportional. Furthermore, potential-free measurement is possible when using a measuring transformer. The secondary current is proportional to the primary current. This allows measuring instruments with a scaling factor to calculate and display the correct current value.
